Space shuttle Endeavour thundered into orbit early Tuesday morning carrying seven astronauts and Japan's dreams for a space-based laboratory at the International Space Station.

STS-123 MISSION SUMMARY
The STS-123 mission will carry two new components to the
International Space Station: the first section of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency's Kibo laboratory and the Canadian Space Agency's two-armed robotic system, known as Dextre.
The Japanese Experiment Logistics Module-Pressurized Section, or ELM-PS, will hold experiment samples, maintenance tools and other spare items. Dextre can be attached to the station’s robotic arm to handle smaller components typically requiring a spacewalking astronaut. At the tip of each arm is a "hand" that consists of retractable jaws used to grip objects.
Endeavour's 16-day flight is the longest shuttle mission to the station and will include five spacewalks. The shuttle also will deliver a new crew member and bring back another one after a seven-week mission.

...Portland Mayor Tom Potter says he's unhappy with how the raids were carried out.
He released this statement: "I am angered by this morning's arrest by federal officers of approximately 150 Portland residents who were working at a local produce company. I certainly understand why federal officials executed criminal warrants against three individuals who stole and sold Social Security numbers. But to go after local workers who are here to support their families while filling the demands of local businesses for their labor is bad policy."

This is what the ICE is supposed to be doing. Portland's mayor can be as unhappy and angry as he wants to be, but Del Monte, which I believe is controlled and partially owned by the husband of Nancy Pelosi, (D-CA) is subject to federal law just like companies that aren't as well represented by politicians. I only hope that ICE is very busy working on the next major law enforcement operation.
This type of sting is exactly what is needed to address the underlying problem with illegal immigration. If illegal immigrants realize that they can't work here without risk of deportation, many won't even make the trip. You don't need to round up 20 million illegals to deport. Many that are here now will go back if they don't find work.
The argument that produce companies and other businesses that presently use illegal immigrant labor provide products at reasonably cheap prices is a phony one that doesn't hold up to scrutiny. The associated costs of illegal immigrant crime, law enforcement, medical services, social services and the like, far outweigh the savings you may see on a head of lettuce or maid service in a hotel.
If the main draw for illegals is a job, then denying that option is a very important piece of an effective immigration policy. Del Monte and the managers involved should be prosecuted to the full extent of the existing law, as should all employers of illegals. I'm perfectly willing to pay more for food and less on taxes that actually support the illegal occupation of our country by people who aren't interested in becoming Americans, but only interested in the criminally generated dollars they can send back to their home country.

In a recent interview with James Dobson, of Focus on the Family, Newt spoke about his infidelity during his first marriage. In my opinion, this is a fairly clear sign that Newt IS going to run for the presidency. By getting in front of this now and taking ownership of the issue early, he disarms this as a potential issue for his opponents when he does officially enter. If they do bring it up later, he has already done the damage control and will reverse the tactic, and subject the other candidate to the silliness of discussing old gossip instead of solutions to problems that we can solve.

He didn't really have any obvious reasons for discussing this old news other than his methodical clearing of the road to the White House.

There has been a series of commercials running on these stations and also in several other radio markets in the US. You have likely heard them if you listen to radio more than 10 minutes a week. The (you are here)helpwanted dot com commericals. The particular ones I am referring to are customized to the Central Illinois sales area. These spots have been in an unusually high rotation rate for far too long, in the opinion of this long time listener.

"Humor ads?" like these produce a smile the first time they are heard, maybe. WSOY, the Decatur AM station, and many others have pummelled their listeners with this same series of bad comedy tripe, over and over for nearly two years, at least. The same two or three commercials with a "humorous" idiot who is supposed to be the boss, and an all-knowing, cheerfully robotic repeater of the web address who is, apparently, the only intellegent person in the fictional business which is, no surprise, needing to hire some helpers. There is one line in which she blandly states, "Well, that's just stupid," that accurately describes the whole commercial series. Too bad someone didn't tell this to the writers early on in the process.

OK, I will admit that this has almost become an obsession with me. I now turn the station when these same old two or three spots come on, sometimes I just turn off the radio altogether.

I don't completely fault the cheesy advertiser for wanting to squeeze more saturation from their advertising dollars, although I wish they would just hire someone to write some NEW (less obnoxious, I would hope) ad copy and produce some new spots. I'm also aware that as an advertising medium, your station, and the others of your group are sales oriented, and love to sell advertising, but you should please consider the sensibilities of your market. I would hope you would adopt a standard for spot repetition that would fall far below what has been the norm in the past, certainly with this series, which has been mercilessly hammered into your listeners. These particular dot com commercials have long outlived any snarky cuteness, and have become a dark cloud over "free" radio. My suggestion, my plea to you, is to either sell shorter contracts, or just say no to the really stupid commercials.

Does anyone out there hate these commercials too? Are there others that cause you to despise the sponsor and just want to turn off the radio or TV?
Back in the 70's or 80's, a local car dealer, Perry Thomas, said something on the order of, "..that it doesn't matter how bad the commercial is, as long as the customer remembers it..." There is a point it seems, beyond that, in which the emotional response becomes negative to the advertiser and medium. Not a good place to be in advertising, unless you are running political attack ads.

Nancy Pelosi demands a jumbo jet, although no rep in Congress has ever had one before. She doesn't feel that the plane that Speaker Dennis Hastert used is big enough for all of her assistants, lobbyists, family members, AND her oversized ego, nor can it fly non-stop from DC to the Left Coast.
Her "request" for a military transport jet with all the bells and whistles will cost over 5 times the rate that the former Speaker's plane would have cost. (more than $15,000,000 per year)
Is the projected $300,000.00 per trip in the best interests of the taxpayers? I don't think so.

Getting in touch with reality, here in fly over country, a few moments of her time would be well spent during refueling at an Illinois, Kentucky or Kansas Air Force base and could likely do her some good.

Yet CAIR deems him "one of the most respected Muslim leaders in America" and includes him on its advisory board.
As if this weren’t enough to question the choice of Minnesota voters, as a state legislator Ellison supported and defended a convicted cop-killer and leader of a violent gang. Ellison used thug-like language to attack law enforcement officials as racists saying “we don’t get no justice, you don’t get no peace.” Ellison also supports and demands freedom for another convicted cop-killer named Assata Shakur, who lives in Cuba and remains on the FBI’s most wanted list.

The new Democrat majority is shaky at best, and I wonder how quickly we'll see the Liberal smiles fade under the the light of day exposure they usually don't get from the Main Stream Media. The ACLU and other liberal groups, Muslim extremists, and ex-Republicans will hold tight in their common disdain (actually, all but hatred) for this administration and conservatism in general?

Maybe... maybe not. I think that "San Fran" Nancy and "Land Dealer" Harry are going to have their hands full.

Much has been written about CNN's decision last week to run portions of a video provided to the news network via a group identified by CNN as "the Islamic Army of Iraq."
This video, shot by the insurgent groups as propaganda for the Muslim world as well as a recruiting tool for a number of Islamo-fascist websites, showed terrorist snipers attacking American soldiers in Iraq.
According to CNN, the video was provided after a producer for CNN sent the group an email asking about its activities.
"I think the American public would be interested in exactly what the email contained, at least from the CNN side of things," says a producer for a rival news network, who was made aware of the video's existence before it aired. "My understanding is that email sent by CNN could not be construed any other way than as supportive of the Islamic militants' position in Iraq. There are people inside CNN who are disgusted by their colleagues' activities in Iraq and here in the United States in covering the war."
Attempts to get a copy of the email were unsuccessful. But one CNN source familiar with the techniques employed by network producers to get the Islamic extremist perspective says that it's common for producers to use Iraqi or Muslim contract employees to get information and access to the terrorists, and they do so by claiming sympathy or support for what the terrorists are doing.
"Anti-Americanism pays off for us over there, no doubt about it," says the CNN employee. "Questions were raised about this video and the way we got it. Once it was confirmed that it was real, the next question was how did we get it. And the answer was, we promised to give the terrorists a fair shake. I know that we are saying there was soul-searching here about running the tape. But I didn't see much of that. The crew used the robotic arm and boom sensor system to ensure that the orbiter’s leading wing edges and nose cap had not received damage from space junk and micrometeoroids.
Also on today’s work schedule is the stowage of items in preparation for the return to Earth. Otherwise, it is a light day of duty for the crew members.

Crew Detects Odor; Atmosphere Recovery Efforts Under Way
"Shortly before 7:30 a.m. EDT, the International Space Station Expedition 13 crew reported an odor in the Zvezda Service Module and manually activated an alarm to begin emergency procedures. The source of the odor was quickly determined to be an apparent leak of potassium hydroxide in the station's Elektron oxygen generation system. Potassium hydroxide, or caustic potash, can be an irritant to crew members, but is not classified as a life-threatening toxin.
The crew donned surgical masks, goggles and gloves for protection from the apparently small leak. Continual measurements of the station atmosphere have indicated levels of any contaminants are very low. The crew also has begun a standard procedure to scrub the air onboard to ensure no potassium hydroxide vapors remain.
Expedition 13 Commander Pavel Vinogradov reported to Russian flight controllers at about 7:45 a.m. that the situation had stabilized and that he cleaned up a chemical near the Elektron oxygen generation system."
