Naming names
"Last week, President Bush finally said the words that many of his supporters in the War On Terror have been waiting years for him -- he named the enemy, calling it "Islamic fascism."

Making clear what no one has said before, that this is a religious war, defined by the enemy.

Defined by the enemy?
I think GWB had the definition nailed back in 2001. He was bold enough to name the regimes of the Axis of Evil, but calling the enemy "Islamic Fascists" is a fine tuning of the description that is more accurate and descriptive.

A Religious war? No, I don't think so. Unless you consider civilization a religion...
Islamic Fascists are waging war with Civilization as a whole, not with any one religion. It is a religious war only by the fact that all of the Islamic Fascists happen to be Muslim.
Islam against the world? Yes.
Civilization against Islam? No.
Civilization against Fascists? Yes.

The enemy defines it as a religious war. Their religion tells them that we are sinners. Their religion tells them that we must be eliminated. They may be abusing the religion, but they explain their actions as being backed by their religious beliefs. To them the West is evil, is Satan, and must be purged.

Yes, Time, I agree with that assessment.

I thought that perhaps you were implying that GWB was wanting to wage an inquisition, while it appears that the exact opposite is the case.
